The 2.8-metre concrete raft that carries Pelham Yard over a live railway tunnel in east London is complete. Poured in 31 night shifts while the trains ran below, it now spreads the weight of the 41-storey tower onto the clay on either side of the tunnel.
Monitoring inside the tunnel recorded movements of less than two millimetres throughout. The tower’s core is now rising.
